About Me

I was born and raised in Penn Twp; just recently became interested in genealogy; I     spend much time in Huntingdon County Courthouse and Juniata College Library  where I find many answers to family births, marriages, and death dates.

My research currently is on my grandmother, Bessie (Grove) McCall's two sisters, Laura (Grove) Smith and Mary( Grove) Smith,  who lived in Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co.  They were born here in Penn Twp , Huntingdon County; married two Smith brothers,  Samuel and Jacob  from Centre County.  The husbands had a thriving Smith Brothers Bakery in Pittsburgh during the 1920, 1930, and maybe in 1940s. They employed family members and other men during that time.

We've lost complete contact with this part of our family.

These two ladies, Laura and Mary, are two of fifteen children of the Benjamin and Hannah (Johnston/Johnson) Grove family.

About Me

My Name is Colin Shepherd Quentin Wolcott, Son of Wesley Alan & Nancy Faye (Myers) Wolcott. My Grandmother is Helen Marie (Garner) Myers, Daughter of Clyde and Olive (Norris) Garner. Don't know the lineage of Clyde Norris, but I do know Olive Norris was the daughter of Emanuel and Catharine Norris. 1 of 9 siblings. not sure where it goes after that, but I do know that it picks up with Samuel W. Norris. would also like to trace the Myers family of Blair county as well as any andersons that are related to Norris, garner, fisher or myers families.

I am a historian of sorts. junior historian... I don't know. What I do know is that I have a deep love for discovery and for histoy. especially family history. on my dads side I have one royal governor, Roger Wolcott, one signer of the declaration of independence, oliver Wolcott, and one secretary of the treasury oliver Wolcott jr. not bragging, really. just knowing this has led me to discover more about my own past and my families. to me, knowing where I come from helps me feel connected to who I am.

About Me

I have spent the last ten years researching my ancestor John David Fisher. He married Margaret Weaver and moved from Huntindon, Pa in 1854 to Illinois. He purchased 40 acres of land in 1850 for $1.25 an acre. The land grant is signed by Willard Fillmore President of the United States. My quest to prove whom where his parents. There are so mamy Henry Fishers and  just need to sort out the correct one.

I carry on the Fisher trait of height, being the shortest of four brothers at six foot three inches. My dad was six foot five inches tall. Thanks to Deb Fisher Riley for pointing out this web site.

Update: I spent part of a day at the Land Office in Dixon, Illinois. I was able to get a copy of the Land Grant of Henry Fisher and his wife. i later went to the land he had bought and talked with the present owner. He thought his family were somehow related. But he never checked into to history. He said his family were from the same area in PA. That his family had bought Land Grant Land in 1841. Another trip back to the Land Office proved to be correct. William Fisher bought Land Grant in China Township now known as Franklin Grove. I was able to get a copy of this Deed.

This now has open up a whole lot of more questions! Somehow My Henry Fisher and William Fisher are related. Maybe someone in Huntingdon PA kowns this William Fisher.

I am planning another trip to Dixon, Il  Courthouse for more records on this Fisher side.

About Me

Max and Sylvia Byers purchased the Zeigler Hotel in 2014.  The hotel has seen better days and we are slowly restoring it to it's former glory.  We are very interested in the history and love researching the hotel's life and the history of the community surrounding it.
