Finally! I finished scanning all of the obituaries that I purchased at the public auction of the late Charles M. Johnson. Mr. Johnson and his wife, the late Grace E. Sheeder, owned and operated the CMJ Economy Store in Entriken from 1931-1992. They also ran the Entriken Post Office from inside the store. Mrs. Johnson died in 1998.
I purchased two notebooks full of obituaries at the sale. All together, there were 260 obituaries. I have kept them all together and labeled them as the Charles Johnson Obituary Collection. The obituaries cover a time period from the 1960s until 2003. There are a few earlier ones and a few later ones too. Mr. Johnson collected the obituaries of family members, community members, friends, and neighbors. The names represented in the collection are a true sampling of the Woodcock Valley lineage.
For the most part, obituaries on this website, with the exception of the above collection, are housed in photo albums labeled by the letters of the alphabet. Individuals are included by their last name. There are now nine albums that contain obituaries. There is a search option that will allow you to find a specific name in the photo and obituary collections.
By typing a name into the box that you see above on the photos and obits page, it will show you any image that contains the word you are looking for. After you type in what you are looking for, be sure and click on the magnifying glass rather than hitting "Enter" on your keyboard. This is the most efficient way to search for a specific name in the photo and obituary albums.
My summer goal is to create a complete obituary index for this website. So, stay tuned for that improvement that should be in place by late summer. In the mean time, please enjoy browsing the Charles Johnson Obituary Collection. I know some of you discovered these obituaries earlier this week, but I have now finished labeling all of them so that they can be located using the search feature above. Enjoy!
