Bonnie Isett Gorman is leading a project through Family Tree DNA to have members of the Isett and Isacks family tested in order to compare DNA samples and see just who is related and who is not!
Through the years, researchers have suggested that our common ancestors, Frederick and Barbara Isaac, set sail for America. Frederick died on board the ship "Pennsylvania" and, Barbara arrived at the port of Philadelphia with two sons, Frederick and Jacob. Both the Isett and Isacks families have this same story, with the same names, and the same dates. Some say the name slowly evolved through time into the surname Isett. However, the Isacks family has lines that transformed the spelling from Isaac to become Isacks and remain so today.
Is this just a case of one line adopting different spellings? I've personally seen it happen right here in the Woodcock Valley area!
Well, a group of us is working to get to the bottom of the age old mystery! Bonnie is leading the charge. The family DNA project is officially established, and Bonnie will be adding additional information to the Isett/Isacks Family DNA webpage. At least one kit has already been ordered, so it is just a matter of getting more people to order a kit and submit the results, and then we can begin comparing the data.
If you are an Isett or Isacks male, still bearing the last name of Isett or Isacks, please consider submitting your DNA. There are reduced rates if you order through Family Tree DNA as part of the Isett/Isacks group. You can order a kit with a reduced rate by clicking here. There are different tests and prices, but Bonnie is recommending the Y-DNA37 test. It will give the sort of results that we can use for genealogical purposes. There are also tests available for females as well.
The central PA Isett branch from the Sinking Valley area of Blair County (formerly Huntingdon County) is traced back to Jacob "B" Isett. There is another line in Huntingdon County with the oldest documented male being James K. Isett. DNA testing will hopefully confirm whether or not James K. Isett relates to the Sinking Valley line. There are also a number of other Isett lines that are not connected at this time as well.
We are trying to locate a member from each known line to be tested so we can compare all of the results to see who is and isn't related! Please consider being tested if you belong to this family!
