Brumbaugh Cemetery

Posted on May 22, 2012 at 7:30 AM

The Brumbaugh family planted their roots on both sides of Tussey Mountain in the Cove area of Blair County and the Woodcock Valley area of Huntingdon County.  Each group has a cemetery named in their honor.

Johannes Heinrich Brumbaugh was the first to come to the area.  His son Jacob remained in the Woodcock Valley area, and other children from his family of seven settled in the Cove area and branched out from there.

Earlier this spring, my family visited the Brumbaugh Cemetery in Fredericksburg, Blair County.   You can read about our adventures in my earlier blog post.  I took photos of some of the graves and transcribed them here.  I only did a partial transcription of the cemetery.  Shortly after, I was contacted by Marilyn Replogle, who had photographed many of the Brumbaugh stones in the cemetery.  She gave me permission to transcribe her photos and add the names to the list.  So, I have added her Brumbaugh names to the cemetery list too.  There are now close to 200 names transcribed for the cemetery.

The Huntingdon County Brumbaugh family is largely buried in the Valley View Cemetery, which the locals refer to as the Brumbaugh Cemetery.  I have transcribed this much smaller cemetery in its entirety.  One of the most notorious burials there is that of Pennsylvania Governor, Martin Grove Brumbaugh.  He served as governor between 1915-1919.

I am a Brumbaugh family researcher. I also wrote an op-ed piece for the Philadelphia Inquirer in June about Martin Grove Brumbaugh.
