An Old Farm House Lost...

Posted on February 18, 2011 at 10:53 PM

The farm house at the Grove Cemetery was destroyed by fire tonight.  Thankfully, no one was home at the time.  We happened to be visiting my dad and saw the flames when we tried to get back on Rt. 26 to head home.  I don't know much about the history of the farm or the house.  The house has been occupied by tenants who help at the adjoining farm for as long as I can remember.  Kevin Fluke operates the farm now.  Harold Dean, Kevin's grandfather, farmed it before him.  The original barn burned at the hand of an arsonist many years ago.  Does anyone know more about this farm's history?

I received an inquiry not long ago wanting to know about a church that was reportedly located at this property years and years ago.  I've never heard of a church associated with the Grove Cemetery.  Anyone know anything about a church?

My prayers go out to the family and to the firefighters.  I hope that no one is injured with the 50 mile an hour winds we are experiencing.  I also hope they are able to save the new barn.
